How to Play Kings & Kingdoms

Master the basics of gameplay, strategy, and resource management to rule your kingdom.

Game Setup

Setting Up

Each player starts with 3 basic Constructions—Farm, Lumbermill, and Quarry—and has a total of 6 available Construction slots. Shuffle your deck and draw 7 cards. You’ll also begin with 2 Food, 2 Wood, and 2 Stone resources.

Deck Construction

  • Your deck must contain exactly 30 cards.
  • You may only have 2 of the same card in your deck and may only have 1 Legend card in the entire deck.
  • The initial Construction cards don’t count toward your deck size or card limit.

How a Round is Played

A round consists of four phases: Draw Phase, Resource Phase, Main Phase, and End Phase. Let’s go through each phase.

Step 1: Draw Phase

Draw one card from your deck. If your deck is empty, take 1 permanent damage instead. You must assign the damage to one of your Constructions; this damage cannot be prevented or removed.

Step 2: Resource Phase

Trigger all “Harvest” abilities on your active Constructions. This gives you more resources (Food, Wood, Stone, Iron) depending on the cards in play.

Step 3: Main Phase

During the main phase, you’ll manage your kingdom and combat, performing multiple actions in any order you want.

  • Play Constructions: Use resources to build new Constructions to generate more resources or provide protection.
  • Deploy Units: Play Unit cards to defend your kingdom and attack your opponent.
  • Use Cast Cards: Cast spells that can harm your enemy or boost your power.
  • Equip Units: Attach Equipment cards to strengthen your Units.
  • Activate Abilities: Use your Units’ Action Points (AP) to perform special abilities like attacking, defending, or using skills.

Step 4: End Phase

In the end phase, trigger any effects that occur at this point, then pass your turn to the next player.

Win and Lose Conditions

Winning the Game

You win the game if all your opponents’ Construction cards are destroyed. The last player with active Constructions is the winner.

Losing the Game

You lose if all your Construction cards are destroyed. Even if you have unoccupied Construction slots, once all your Constructions are flipped, you are out of the game.

Strategic Tips

Tip 1: Manage Resources Wisely

Food, Wood, Stone, and Iron are key to winning. Keep a balance and know when to spend them to maintain both offensive and defensive strength.

Tip 2: Defend Your Constructions

Your Constructions are vital to resource generation. Always have a defensive strategy in place to protect them from enemy attacks.

Tip 3: Efficient Use of Action Points

Action Points are limited, so use them strategically. Choose the right moment to attack or activate special abilities to surprise your opponent.
